National Skills Week Announced for Winter Term

A free, week-long program brings hands-on workshops, micro-credentials, and tool libraries to every region—helping residents upskill fast.

The administration announced National Skills Week, a coordinated series of free workshops and clinics focused on practical skills that communities can use immediately. The program features four tracks—energy retrofits, digital literacy, small-business tools, and career services—delivered through day and evening sessions so residents can attend around work and caregiving. Participants will learn how to audit home energy use, reduce bills with basic weatherization, and navigate grants for appliance upgrades.

Digital sessions cover privacy hygiene, password managers, and accessible design basics; the small-business track introduces point-of-sale reporting, inventory tools, and invoicing; and career services provide portfolio reviews, mock interviews, and guidance on micro-credentials recognized by public employers. A traveling equipment library will loan thermal cameras, plug-in meters, and laptops for class use, while child-friendly rooms and captioned recordings make events broadly accessible. Registration is open now; seats are prioritized for first-time learners and applicants from rural areas. After the week ends, recordings, step-by-step guides, and template documents will be published to the portal for anyone to reuse.
